What is the IgG Food Sensitivity Test?
IgG Food sensitivity testing is a test that we run here at Docere Naturopathic Clinic on a weekly basis. Many patients come in looking for answers to their digestive concerns. They recognize that there are offending foods but are having trouble pin pointing their exact food sensitivities, or are too busy or overwhelmed to follow an elimination type diet.
This test makes sense for them – once they have a road map in hand it can be much easier to navigate food. And once the offending foods are removed we can help heal their digestive tract and improve their symptoms.
How Does One Heal Their Digestive Tract?
It is a bit of a vicious circle. Identifying increased food sensitivities is a sign that there is inflammation in the digestive tract. When there is inflammation in the digestive tract there is an increase in intestinal permeability. The increase in intestinal permeability, or leaky gut, leads to increased food sensitivities. And so, the pattern continues until the offending foods are identified and eliminated.
But there is more. Increased intestinal permeability has also been linked to other health concerns such as: seasonal allergies, migraines, mood disorders, nutrient deficiencies and autoimmune conditions. In these patients we are not sure what comes first, intestinal permeability or food sensitivities but once the cycle begins it will continue until identified and interrupted. These patients, who may have seemingly perfect digestion, can also benefit from the food sensitivity test.
We have all heard the famous quote attributed to Hippocrates – “Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food”. In the case of food sensitivities, it is important that the food being eaten is health promoting medicine and does not continue to feed inflammation.
